What Style Is It?
Enneagram, Portland and Architecture:
A Walking Tour on Type... for those who talk type
Sunday May 7th, 10am-noon: Only $20
The group may enjoy optional lunch together afterwards.
How do we respond to an individual building....a downtown district..... a residential neighborhood? One way to approach architecture is to think of what the buildings are “saying to us”. If we think of buildings as springing from the vision of an architect with the intent not only to serve a purpose but to convey an intellectual, emotional or visceral response; then the connection between architecture and the enneagram is a natural fit.
On this downtown walking tour we'll take a look at some Portland architectural icons with a whimsical approach to interpreting and attributing an Enneagram Style to each building. We'll see how one can use the lens of the Enneagram to understand and identify architectural styles. Think of this tour as another way to pay attention and get to know your city and Enneagram Community.
An architectural walking tour specifically geared for friends of Enneagram Portland. If you know something about the Nine Types, plan to explore the values and styles expressed in the buildings (and people!) around you.
Eric Wheeler was trained to teach the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition in the late 1990s by Helen Palmer and David Daniels. He has taught the Enneagram in retreat centers, churches, schools and other settings in the Upper Midwest and more recently in the Portland area. Eric's work as an architectural historian includes historic research, documentation and interpretation of the built environment. He currently leads walking tours highlighting the distinctive architecture, history and culture of Portland.

"I really had a great time on the tour today. You are so upbeat, positive, and excited which made it a good day for everyone. I loved the way you engaged everybody and asked them to come up with their own typing of the spaces. A good tour!"

"Eric teaches you lots about new ways of seeing--- architecture and type energies. I enjoyed hearing everyone else's thoughts/feelings and instincts on what was being expressed by a particular building." --- Dale Rhodes
Greetings,
You must pre-pay using the button above.
The "Enneagram and Architecture" walking tour meeting place is in front of Pioneer Courthouse on the 6th Ave side, looking at Pioneer Courthouse Square. We'll meet in front of the main steps leading into the courthouse this Sunday at 10:00 AM.
The tour covers about 20 blocks (1 mile) at a very relaxed pace. We'll return to the starting point around 12:00 PM. Optional gathering for food and conversation after the tour. Come to this event with and open mind, some understanding of the enneagram, and an attitude of "Portland whimsy"!
Questions or comments? You can reach me by text or phone if you are running late. The Max Blue and Red lines have altered schedules this Sunday, so do leave plenty of time for travel.
See you on Sunday,
Eric Wheeler
